Major Polish Power Station

Advanced Project Controls for Large-Scale Energy Infrastructure

The issue was to match the resources on the site to the expected man-power and performance. This was achieved by use of the BIM models to extract the actual quantities and the expected quantities and then to mark the progress achieved on the BIM model. This allowed for an accurate and realistic analysis of the remaining quantities of work. When the labour teams with their known output rates were applied to the un-built schedule it was possible to accurately calculate the remaining durations and the remaining resource allocation. The below is not the actual model from that site ( sensitive information) but it is an indicative model showing the application of the technique. To make this work it was necessary to construct a resource driven schedule:

MOP ON A4: WEATHER ISSUES

This was a relatively simple project,  but it did have some complicated weather issues associated with an unusually hard winter.    We used the EHAB plug-in for Asta Power Project and achieved results in the expected way.  This is discussed in detail here:  https://blog.ehab.co/asta-weather-plugin-weatherwise-construction-planning. What was successful was the possibility to adjust Power Project Calendars to model future weather and the data feed within EHAB was closely comparable to the weather station data in the local weather stations.  Previously we were using probabilistic modelling of weather for the calendar for all tasks during the winter period  to create calendar exceptions.  This approach made the modelling of individual team calendars a realistic proposition.

Outcome

There are now many ways to achieve realistic modelling of weather provided that this is done in advance.  Training off staff is a key issue here,  without strong basic planning good weather planning will not show up correctly.
